NIIT opens new centre; to hire more

New Delhi , Nov. 10

NIIT, the software and computer education major, on Monday opened a new development centre here and announced plans to hire more people as business prospects look up.

The new facility will house 300 professionals, and the company intends to add 100 people each in its Bangalore and Kolkata centres over the next six months, top company officials said here after the inauguration of the new centre.

"This new facility is a realisation of our growing relationship with our large customers," said Mr Vijay K. Thadani, CEO of NIIT.

NIIT is in the process of spinning off its software business as `NIIT Technologies' in order to have a better focus on its two areas of business. The board of directors of NIIT had approved this plan on October 24 and modalities are now being worked to complete the process.

It was announced earlier that as a listed company focussed only on the IT services business, NIIT Technologies will have greater flexibility as well as acquisition currency to create innovative strategic alliances.

According to Mr Arvind Thakur, President of NIIT Technologies, steady growth of business in areas of insurance, airlines and retail was the reason for the company to go in for expansion.

The new facility was inaugurated by Mr Derek Reynolds, Senior Vice President, ING Americas — a key customer of NIIT Technologies.
