Our Bureau

New Delhi , Nov. 10

THE forthcoming meeting of the Information Ministers of the SAARC countries is expected to take up issues related to free movement of media personnel within the SAARC countries, setting up a SAARC media fund and framing model guidelines on transnational satellite broadcasting.

The conference, beginning on November 11, will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister, Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee. "India will propose to hold a SAARC film festival," the Information and Broadcasting Minister, Mr Ravi Shankar Prasad, told newspersons here.

Among the issues expected to be taken up is the setting up of a SAARC-recognised regional media forum, holding an annual conference of editors and working journalists from these countries and training of media personnel in the region. It will also review the progress of establishing a SAARC information centre while considering the report of the second meeting of heads of national TV and radio organisations.
