Aventis scheme for osteoporosis patients

Our Bureau

Mumbai , Nov. 12

AVENTIS Pharma Ltd has unveiled a comprehensive healthcare management programme for women diagnosed with osteoporosis.

Called Wishbone, the programme, which seeks to offer rapid and sustained protection against fractures caused by osteoporosis, will be available across Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Kolkata.

According to Dr Sandeep Bhattacharya, Director of APL's commercial operations, Wishbone incorporates several features such as high-quality diagnosis, treatment and overall patient care, including on-call counsellors, physiotherapists and nutritionists. At the core of the programme is Aventis' drug, Actonel, which is the only biphosphonate proven to achieve both rapid vertebral fracture reduction and sustained vertebral and hip fracture reduction, Dr Bhattacharya told presspersons here on Tuesday.

Another feature of Wishbone is that insurance cover would be provided to women enrolling in the programme.

"Wishbone members will automatically be insured for any fracture as long as the patient is part of the programme, at no extra cost," he said.

Osteoporosis patients can enrol with Wishbone for a registration fee of Rs 1,000, followed by a monthly payment of Rs 2,000, which includes services such as adjuvant therapy, market tests, insurance cover for fractures, educational material, peer group support programme, on-call dieticians and physiotherapists and life-style modification counselling.
