Telecommunications Marketing - Strategy Dial Airtel and hear Nehru, for a cause R.Y. Narayanan
Coimbatore , Nov. 13 DO you long to hear the the emotion-filled speech of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, particularly the `Tryst with destiny', even for some fleeting moments? Are you moved by the plight of poor children and would love to help them in, however, small a way? Here is an opportunity which comes knocking at your mobile phone, if you are a customer of Airtel, one of the mobile service providers in Tamil Nadu. On the occasion of the Children's day on November 14, the company has launched a special scheme, to be in force for three days November 13, 14 and 15 during which Airtel customers could call a particular number and listen to excerpts from Nehru's famous speech and be satisfied that whatever charges they incur would go to `Udavum Karangal', a Chennai-based organisation involved in the welfare of destitute children. According to Mr P.Swaminathan, CEO and Director-Mobility, Southern Region, Bharti Cellular Ltd, Airtel customers could dial `64697' which will be answered by a child and could then listen to the famous speech of Pandit Nehru that he delivered at the Central Hall of Parliament on August 14, 1947. The speech, in Nehru's own voice, could be heard for about 30 seconds. Airtel, as a token of appreciation, would send the caller a special ring tone `We are the World' by pop king Michael Jackson. The calls would be billed at Rs 6 per minute and Airtel would donate the entire payment collected from this gesture to `Udavum Karangal'.
