Coconut, spices meet to draft action plan

The two-day sub-sectoral meeting of the Bangaldesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Thailand (BIMST) Economic Cooperation would be held here on November 17 and 18.

The meeting, organised by the Spices Board in association with the Coconut Development Board under the auspices of the Union Government, would cover coconut and spices, according to Spices Board sources here.

Representatives of each country would present papers. Whilethe presentation on Monday focus on coconut, the second day would cover the spices sector.

The meet would cover various issues such as: Pest and disease management and introduction of new varieties; training on pre and post-harvest practices; value-addition and products diversification; scope for coconut by-products development and research on medicinal and health values of spices.

Discussions would also be held on draft action plan and areas of cooperation, they added.
