EC to aid Hyderabad health institute

Hyderabad , Nov. 14

THE European Commission (EC), as a part of its Institutional Co-operation Component (ICC), has approved a proposal for strengthening and supporting the Indian Institute of Health & Family Welfare (IIHFW), Hyderabad.

The major task before the initiative is to develop partnerships between the institute and the European institutions to provide support for reforming the health sector. A team of consultants from the London School of Economics (LSE) and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) had recently carried out a review of the institute.

In the first phase of the programme, the Commission would arrange faculty development programmes at the LSE and LSHTM in London. Four faculty members of the institute - Dr K. Balasubramanian, Dr G.V. Ramana Rao, Dr A. Saibaba and Dr H.V.V. Murthy - will participating in the first programme starting in the third week of November, according to a press release from the institute.

In the second phase of the project, upgradation of the documentation centre and computer facilities at the institute would be undertaken.

Mr Philip J. Constable, team leader, ICC, had recently met the Andhra Pradesh Minister for Health, Medical & Family Welfare and senior officials and appraised them about the project, the institute Director, Dr Mohan Ram, said.
