India makes a mark in animation films

K.V. Kurmanath

Hyderabad , Nov. 15

INDIA has made a mark in the making of full-length animation films with Son of Alladin, which is among the 33 films in the fray in the International Competition league at the 13th International Children's Film Festival.

Directed by the veteran film director, Mr Singeetam (Srinivasa) Rao, the 83-minute film, which received applause from a house-full of school children and delegates here on Saturday, was made with a budget of Rs 20 crore at Pentamedia Graphics Ltd. "The figure might look huge when we understand it in the Indian perspective of producing films. But it would have cost anywhere in the range of Rs 100 crore," Mr Rao told Business Line.

Not only that, the figure would look small when compared to the budgets of animation films made in Hollywood. "Their budgets would go beyond hundreds of millions, whereas we spent a mere $3.6 million," he said.
