Employment Attestation counters sought for overseas jobseekers Our Bureau
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Water Resources Minister, Mr T.M. Jacob, has demanded that the proposed special counters for attesting various certificates for job aspirants bound for Gulf destinations be set up in Kerala. In a fax message to the Prime Minister, Mr A.B. Vajpayee, seeking issue of suitable directions to the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development in this regard, Mr Jacob said that the new rules tightening up emigration procedures and requiring attestation of various credentials had hit aspirants from the State the most. All Gulf-bound job aspirants, except those carrying a labour visa, would henceforth need to have a minimum education qualification of SSLC. The certificate to this effect is required to be counter-attested by the Union Ministry of Human Resources and later by the UAE Embassy. It is well within the scope of the Union Ministry to open a dialogue with the State Government and set up the attesting counters in various parts of the State not least because Kerala accounts for the largest number of job aspirants. The State Government had issued the certificates in the first place, and setting up these counters here would facilitate counter-checking of certificates by its own officials, Mr Jacob said.
