Pune , Nov. 18

TATA Motors today introduced the Tata SFC 407EX Turbo LCV (light commercial vehicle). This is the second in the 407 series.

Talking to presspersons, Mr P. Telang, Senior Vice-President, Tata Motors, Pune plant, said , the vehicle, which combines high performance with low maintenance, would be available in versions of high-deck load body, half-load body and cab chassis.

The new model will cost Rs 12,000 more than the existing Tata 407 model.

Tata 407 EX is priced Rs 4.48 lakh for cab chassis and Rs 4.7 lakh for Hideck.

Asked whether this would mean phasing out of the Tata 407, company officials said that "it might be a possibility if the demand for 407 EX picks up.''

When the company had upgraded the 709 version to 709 EX version, the 709 version had been phased out. Currenly, about 2,000 Tata 407 vehicles are being sold every month.. With the new version the company expects about 30 per cent increase in sales.

Mr Telang said that Tata 407 EX under test conditions (with 100 per cent payload) gave a fuel efficiency of 9.5 km to a litre, compared to 8.5 km to a litre of Tata 407. Compared to other LCV vehicles on road (Mahindra, Swaraj, Eicher), the fuel efficiency was 10 to 12 per cent higher, they said.

The vehicle would sport three colours — Irish cream, Turquoise green and Aztec blue.
