Bangalore , Nov. 18 SAP AG said on Tuesday that it planned to double its employee strength in India from the current level of 750 to 1,500 by end-2004. Mr Peter Zencke, member of the executive board of SAP AG, told a press conference that the German company was looking at India as a strategic hub for high-end product development. SAP Labs India inaugurated its facility in Bangalore in which the company has invested euro 20 million in the current year. "SAP Labs India is the second biggest development centre outside Waldorf, Germany. By the end of the next year, this facility should overtake our Waldorf centre and emerge as the largest SAP outfit in the world," Mr Zencke said. SAP Labs India currently accounts for 40 per cent of SAP's global product development and primarily focuses on verticals such as manufacturing, CRM (customer relationship management), including mobility and human capital management solutions, he said. SAP plans to involve the India centre in the localisation of the HCM (human capital management) solutions for Asia Pacific and North America, and the company was planning to set up a 90-member start-up team by the end of this year for business intelligence software, he said. Commenting on the company's prospects in the Indian market, Mr Zencke said the "future was bright." SAP was making aggressive efforts to market IT solutions to the small and medium business segment and 150 out of 400 SAP customers in India were SMBs, he said.
