Apple launches new OS, iBook

New Delhi , Nov. 18

APPLE Computer on Tuesday unveiled its latest operating system (OS), `Panther' and notebook computers that are powered by the G4 processors. While the Panther has more than 150 new features, the new iBooks offer advanced connectivity and enhanced memory, company officials said here.

The new OS is priced at Rs 7,100 for a single user licence, while a single-residence, five-user licence will be available for Rs 10,600. The iBooks, which come pre-installed with Panther, are priced at Rs 76,800 for 12-inch display model and Rs 91,500 for the 14-inch display model.

Some of the features of Panther include a new file searching tool, which is six times faster than the previous version; a video conferencing solution; a faster PDF reader and enhanced mail with spam filtering technology.

The OS requires a minimum of 128 MB of memory. It is designed to run on Apple products such as iMac, iBook, Power Macintosh G3, Power Mac G4 and Power Mach G4 Cube.

The new iBooks are available in three configurations of 800 Mhz, 933 Mhz and 1.0 Ghz.
