Bharti applies for licence in 6 new circles

THE Bharti Group has joined the dash for unified licences, by applying for six new telecom circles where it does not offer cellular services at present.

According to an official statement, the company has decided to roll out its services in the circles of Uttar Pradesh (East), Rajasthan, West Bengal, Orissa, Bihar and Jammu & Kashmir.

"The applications are made keeping in view the current guidelines issued by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). Bharti Cellular Ltd (BCL), the cellular arm and a subsidiary of Bharti Tele-Ventures Ltd, has applied for these licences and has requested the DoT to issue the letters of intent. BCL has requested for the allocation of 900 MHz and 1800 Mhz spectrum band in all the circles wherever applicable," the statement notes.
