Hyderabad , Nov. 19 THE seventh steering committee meeting of Cereals and Legumes Asia Network (CLAN), held at the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (Icrisat), has prepared a project proposal for $3.5 million donor support for enhanced research and development for food legumes in Asia. The project requests the donors to provide the monetary support for over four years to Icrisat and its partners Asian Vegetable Research and Development Centre, International Centre for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas, Asia-Pacific Association of Agricultural Research Institutions, the national partners and non-Government organisations. The partners also prepared a joint letter to be sent to donors, according to an Icrisat release. At the meeting, the partners stressed the need for enhancing the scope of CLAN and included mungbean and lentil, in addition to sorghum, pearl millet, chickpea, pigeonpea and groundnut. The overall objective of CLAN is to support, coordinate and facilitate research collaboration and technology exchange, involving its mandate crops and their resource management among scientists working with the national agricultural research systems in Asia.
