TN crafts expo begins in Mangalore

THE Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd, popularly known as `Poompuhar', began a 12-day `Crafts Mela' in Mangalore on Wednesday.

Handicrafts and handcrafted textiles of Tamil Nadu will be exhibited and sold during the mela.

Addressing presspersons here, Mr R. Karunakaran, Manager of Poompuhar, Bangalore, said that the corporation helps poor craftsmen by marketing their products through its sales outlets. Apart from 15 outlets in Tamil Nadu, it has a presence in Bangalore, New Delhi, and Kolkata.

Mr Karunakaran said that Rs 12 lakh business is expected in Mangalore this year.

The corporation is providing training and employment to nearly 200 artisans, he added.

The District Information Officer, Mr Ramalinge Gowda, inaugurated the exhibition-cum-sale.
