Tektronix sees huge scope for EDGE tech

Preeti Pandey

Mumbai , Nov. 19

TEKTRONIX Inc, test and measurement equipment provider, has increased its thrust on the Indian market, especially with cellular operators here mulling deployment of EDGE (enhanced data rates for global evolution) technology.

EDGE is expected to increase the speed of data transmission for the existing GSM-based GPRS networks.

"India's cellular market presents a huge opportunity for Tektronix, especially in an environment where network operators are looking at optimising resources and controlling subscriber churn," Mr Viraj Pradhan, Business Manager, Telecom, Tektronix (India) Ltd, told Business Line.

Both China and India are key markets for test and measurement tools given the telecom boom expected. According to Mr Pradhan, the country's mobile (GSM) network operators would adopt EDGE over the next six months.

Testing tools such as Interference Tester, according to Mr Pradhan, would help operators to conduct interference analysis.

Tektronix plans to launch products such as Interference Tester and Wireless Communicator Analyser nationwide. These tools would help test and deployment of mobile networks based on EDGE technology.

The company has already started conducting test runs of its Interference Tester in cellular networks of Delhi and Mumbai.

Currently, CDMA operators in India were using Tektronix' protocol tester, added Mr Pradhan.
