13 Indian entries for Dubai Media awards

Vimala Vasan

Abu Dhabi , Nov. 19

THIRTEEN entries from India have been shortlisted by the Dubai Media City for the Ibda'a Media Student Awards out of a total of 37 entries.

Other short-listed entries include four from the UAE, six each from Iran and South Africa, four from Egypt and one each from the UK, Australia, Lebanon and Sri Lanka, according to a press release from Dubai Media City.

The exceptional quality of the entries in some categories prompted the judges to include up to five entries in the shortlist. The categories of Animation, Graphic Design, Radio, TV Documentary, Print Advertising, TV Advertising, Film/TV Feature and Journalism have four short-listed entries while Photography has five.

The announcement of the shortlist follows an intensive evaluation of the 1,819 entries received by the organisers. Building on last year's success, this year's Ibda'a Awards received an even greater response. Last year, the awards attracted 1,427 entries.

As with last year, the evaluation was conducted this year with the support of the UAE Chapter of the International Advertising Association (IAA).

The Dubai Media City attributed the huge participation in this year's Ibda'a Awards to a massive promotional campaign conducted across a wide cross-section of media markets in the region.

The Ibda'a Awards were launched in June 2001 with the mission of discovering, showcasing and fostering student media talent in the region. Prestigious internships with global media giants are part of the rich array of prizes that await the winners.

All short-listed candidates will be flown to Dubai for an exhibition of their work in December. The final round of judging, also to be held in December, will select one winner from each category.

Indian students have been winning several prizes ever since the Ibdaa' Awards were launched.
