AP power position improves

HYDERABAD: Power supply position in the State has improved, with the State Government according permission for the release of 19,000 cusecs of water from the Srisailam reservoir to the downstream Nagarjunasagar reservoir for irrigation purposes.

This has lead to augmentation of hydel power generation. The Generation Corporation of AP is now producing 8.5 million units (MU) per day at the Srisailam power plant and 3.5 million units MU at the Nagarjuna power plant, according to the officials of the Transmission Corporation of AP (APTransco).

Besides, the demand for power had declined in the State to 128 MU per day from a peak of 145 MU, with kharif agricultural operations coming to an end. Following this, APTransco stopped buying power from West Bengal and Orissa.
