Hyderabad , Nov. 19

THE Andhra Pradesh Government has extended the deadline for regularisation of surplus lands up to March 31, 2004.

According to a press release from the Office of the Special Officer & Competent Authority, Urban Land Ceiling, the decision comes following the dismissal of a public interest litigation filed against Government Orders (GOs) by the High Court on November 13. The State Government had issued GOs 455 & 456 dated July 29, 2002 for regularisation of occupation of individuals in surplus lands.

According to GO 455, if the encroachers were in the occupation of surplus lands by constructing residential houses, such lands will be regularised in their favour if they produce evidences of building permission, municipal property tax receipts, electricity connection, water supply connection etc. If the land in the occupation of third parties is vacant but covered by a registered sale document, such land will also be regularised.

The Government has fixed nominal amounts as cost of regularisation. Various categories depending on the area and the date of possession were prepared. Older the occupation of surplus land, lesser will be the cost of regularisation. For families below poverty line, regularisation would be done free of cost up to 80 sq. yards.
