Airlines Air India, IA to execute security operations Our Bureau
Mumbai , Nov. 20 AIR INDIA and Indian Airlines are set to implement a one-security agency for one airport concept at all the international airports. This follows an agreement having been reached between the two airlines. Under the new arrangement, Indian Airlines will handle all security-related functions for all international flights departing and arriving at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. Likewise, Air India will be the single agency for security functions at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai. The Ministry of Civil Aviation had, at a meeting last week, decided that all security operations at a given airport would be handled by a single agency. This arrangement will gradually be extended to cover other international airports as well. Screening of baggage by a single agency is expected to speed up the process and reduce the wait for passengers prior to checking in for their flights, irrespective of the airline by which they are travelling. The agreement was signed after all manpower-related concerns expressed by the Air India Employees' Guild were addressed jointly by the Air India and Indian Airlines' management teams at a meeting in Delhi. All Air-India employees currently engaged in security functions at the Delhi Airport, would be seconded to Indian Airlines for security-related work thus eliminating any chance of dislocation of the staff. Their emoluments and perquisites would also be protected. An agreement to this effect has been signed by leaders of the Air India Employees' Guild, representing Air-India employees, and the Air Corporation Employees' Union, the representative body of Indian Airlines' employees. Air India and Indian Airlines will also evolve a revenue sharing arrangement to ensure that the financial interests of both national carriers are protected after the introduction of the new concept.
