Fair demand for teas at Kochi auction

A FAIR general demand persisted for almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction.

Of the quantity of 10,01,000 kg on offer in the dust category, CTC market opened Rs 1-2 lower. But the drop was Rs 2-3 as the sale progressed and towards the close, it was Rs 4-5 lower. Orthodox dusts were also lower.

The best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 45 and Rs 65, medium CTC realised Rs 35-45 and poorer type were quoted Rs 23-26. Highgrown BOPD fetched prices between Rs 102 and Rs 104 while medium BOPD realised Rs 30-35. Secondaries were quoted at Rs 25-28.

The leaf sale also witnessed only a fair general demand and the quantity on offer was 4,64,000 kg. Orthodox primary brokens were easier by Rs 2-3. Secondaries barely steady and tended to ease. Fannings steady to occasionally dearer. CTCs easier by Rs 1-2. The best Nilgiri varieties commanded prices between Rs 33 and Rs 58, medium orthodox realised Rs 26-40. The best CTC leaf fetched prices between Rs 35 and Rs 42 and medium CTC leaf were quoted Rs 30-35.
