Kerala Govt lifts curbs on movement of rubber wood

Thiruvananthapuram , Nov. 24

THE State Government has decided to lift all restrictions on the inter-State movement of rubber wood with immediate effect.

Briefing newspersons here on the proceedings of a routine Cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister, Mr A.K. Antony, said the decision was taken in response to persistent complaints from growers about restrictions on the movement of rubber wood denying them `reasonable returns' from its sale. Rubber wood enjoyed considerable demand in many States as a good substitute for conventional timber.

To another question, the Chief Minister said the surplus posts left in Government services had now been assessed as 3,000, which was far less when compared to the earlier estimated 60,000. According to Mr Antony, 4,000 jobs had already been abolished.

The figure of 60,000 surplus jobs had been brought down to 17,000 by a subsequent study. Of this, 7,000 jobs had been identified for being abolished. The 4,000 jobs already abolished belonged to this list, Mr Antony said.
