Now, it's entertainment software outsourcing

New Delhi, Nov. 24

AFTER business process outsourcing (BPO), the next opportunity could well be outsourcing in the entertainment sector.

According to Mr Peter Mukherjea, CEO, Star India, the country could become an important destination for production of entertainment software, especially since there is pressure internationally to reduce programming costs.

He said that unlike in the West where production houses come up with programme concepts, in India, the broadcaster would have to work along with production houses for various programming concepts. The presence of Indian entertainment companies in various international forum is virtually negligible, he added.

Speaking at a session on Media at the World Economic Forum, noted film director, Mr Shekhar Kapur, said that Asia would emerge as the largest market for the entertainment business accounting for 70 per cent of the total revenues. While technology, including broadband and mobile telephony would revolutionise the sector, there is acute shortage of corporate funds into the sector.
