3rd party surrogates needed to dispel offshoring doubts

K.R. Srivats

New Delhi , Nov. 27

SHOULD Indian businesses find third party surrogates for diffusing the offshoring backlash seen in certain States of the US? Such an approach would indeed benefit Indian companies, according to Mr Paul Laudicina, Managing Director, A.T.Kearney, US.

He told Business Line that Indian companies should encourage their American customers to communicate to US political leaders and administrators the benefits arising from offshoring deals.

"I don't think lobbying per se would win the day for Indian companies. Most American companies are reluctant to talk about offshoring transactions as they are politically sensitive. Indian companies should make their customers do the talking regarding quantitative benefits of such transactions, " he said.

He underscored the need for an independent public policy analysis of cost-benefits associated with offshoring transactions.
