Software More client wins than losses for IT majors Bharat Kumar
Chennai , Nov. 27 INDIAN software companies continue to run, in order to remain where they are. At the time of announcing results for the quarter ended September 2003, assurances hade come aplenty "software revenues rebound", "strong performance in the market", and "we are strengthening our client relationship management framework". But the number of new clients that they have added roughly matches the number of clients who have quit during the quarter, save for a few exceptions. Typically, software companies reveal the number of new clients they added in a quarter and, the number of clients they actively serviced in that quarter and in the previous quarter. This allows one to calculate the actual number of client wins and client losses. A look at the attached table shows that for the quarter ended September 2003, Infosys had a net addition of one client, while Satyam Computer Services had a net addition of five. Wipro Technologies stood out in the crowd with a net addition of 28 clients while the number of new clients stood at 35. Likewise, HCL Technologies saw a net addition of 29 while new clients figures stood at 36. Smaller companies such as Mastek saw a net loss of 10, while Polaris saw a net loss of three clients. iGate Global Solutions lost 11 clients, as many as it gained in the quarter. For the majors, in the last four quarters, however, total client wins outnumber client losses significantly. Infosys gained 102 clients while it lost 63. Satyam had figures of 99 and 71, Wipro Tech 141 and 67 and HCL Tech 105 and 40.
