Tyco Electronics sees big rise in `networking' revenue

THE networking division of Tyco Electronics Corporation India expects to report a 50 per cent growth in revenue over that of last year.

The revenue for the fiscal year ending September 2004 is likely to be around Rs 120 crore. A spurt in new economy firms, including business process outsourcing and call centres,was driving the growth, the company's Country Manager, AMP Netconect, Mr K.K. Shetty, told newspersons here.

The networking division provides Local Area Network in buildings and large campuses.

Tyco Electronics, the Indian subsidiary of the $36 billion US-based Tyco International, also plans to provide wireless network by January 2004 along with cabling system. Its other divisions include aerospace and defence, automotive, communications, appliance and industrial, commercial and instrumentation, he said.

According to Mr Shetty, once the backbone connectivity between cities is in place, the networking division's revenues could reach Rs 750 crore before 2007. India's annual networking market was growing at about 15 per cent, he said.

Overall, during the current year, the company was expecting a 25 per cent growth in revenue over previous year's Rs 400 crore, he said.

Meanwhile, the decision to make India and China as manufacturing hubs for fibre optic products, including patch cords and media converters (both networking devices) had resulted in a saving of 30-40 per cent for the parent company.
