New Delhi , Nov. 27

THE Taiwan-based telecom company, DBTEL Inc, has unveiled 11 models of its GSM mobile phones that it intends to swamp the Indian market within the next ten days.

According to Mr Levis Hsu, Vice-President (Asia Pacific Operations) DBTEL, the company will be investing up to $50 million for setting up marketing and customer care network, rivalling that of market leader Nokia. It has tied up with Chennai-based Munoth Communications for marketing and distribution and intends to bring a total of 23 models in the next six months.

"We hope to capture 20 per cent of the market share in the first year of our presence in the Indian market. For this we have already tied up with 40 distributors across the country and also plan to set up a network of after sales and customer care outlets. The models that are being introduced are in the price range of Rs 4,250 - Rs 15,750," he noted.

The $800-million DBTEL, which claims to have the second largest market share in China, was the original equipment supplier to Motorola, Siemens, Lucent Telecom, Alcatel among others. The company would also look at sourcing from India its research and development over the next two years, he said.
