Aid to Sivaganga SHGs

MADURAI: Self-help groups (SHGs) in the Sivaganga district have been assisted to the tune of Rs 19.2 crore, according to district collector Dr J. Radhakrishnan.

He said that the Tamilnadu Corporation for Development of Women has formed 3,779 SHGs in the district consisting of 64, 388 members with a total saving of Rs 9.50 crore.

They are being motivated to take up innovative jobs like taking quarries on lease, manufacture of bronze puja materials, run internet kiosks in rural areas etc. Vocational training is to be imparted to 420 women in canteen management, interior decoration, food processing, computer operations during the current year.

An exhibition-cum-sale centre for SHGs has been opened in the Collectorate where the groups will sell their products on a rotation basis, he said.
