Heritage, United Church to train medical professionals

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , Dec. 5

HERITAGE Hospital, the city-based hospital services organisation focussing on geriatric care and United Church Homes (UCH), a US-based, not-for-profit corporation mostly into retirement services, have announced the launch of their joint venture to train and provide placement services to the Indian medical professionals in the US hospitals.

The Heritage Director, Mr K.R. Gangadharan, and the UCH President, Mr Brain Allen, have formally signed a memorandum of understanding here on Friday to form two legal entities - UCH Heritage Healthcare USA Inc in the US and UCH Heritage Healthcare India Private Ltd here.

As a part of the agreement, UCHH India would recruit and train the registered nurses from India and UCHH USA would arrange for their placement with healthcare facilities and hospitals in the US.

According to Mr Allen, there was considerable shortage of medical staff in the US and it was expected to multiply over the next two years accounting to an estimated 4,50,000 vacancies in the nursing profession alone.

Mr Gangadharan said the huge gap could be bridged by Indian medical professionals, especially nurses, as the country has a large number of qualified nurses who have substantial clinical experience. "Unfortunately, most of them are not in a position to better their prospects as most international examinations are very expensive and require a command over English and skilful preparation. We would offer these services free of cost," Mr Gangadharan said.

As part of the joint venture, UCHH India would give nurses an intensive training for the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools certification, proficiency in English and familiarisation with the US health standards and requirements.
