Insight Revenues per client up for software cos Bharat Kumar
Chennai , Dec. 7 SOFTWARE companies continue to make more money, on average, per client. The accompanying table shows that revenues per client have consistently gone up for all software companies that Business Line has looked at. This exercise excluded top 10 clients and the revenues that they contribute. Significantly, smaller companies have managed to see bigger jumps in revenues per client for the quarter ended September 2003 compared with the same quarter in 2002. Companies that have made acquisitions in the recent past have managed to show higher jumps in revenue per client than those that have not. iGate Global Solutions, Wipro Technologies and Polaris Software Labs have all shown a bigger growth in revenue per client than their peers have. iGate has, in the recent past, acquired eJiva, AquaRegia, IT&T and IdeaSpace's IT business. Likewise, Wipro has acquired Spectramind, NerveWire and AMS' Energy practice in the US, while Polaris merged with software products company Orbitech. Among those software companies listed in the table, HCL Technologies has shown the least growth in revenues per client. As to the contribution from top 10 clients to software revenues, most companies have brought it down from the levels seen last year. This is a healthy sign, given that depending on a clutch of clients for revenues is risky. On this count, only Infosys Technologies has maintained percentage of revenues from top 10 clients at exactly the same level as it was 12 months ago - 37.9 per cent. But, since its total revenues have increased, the absolute value of revenues from top 10 clients has decreased. Interestingly, when September 2003's figures for top 10 clients are compared with June 2003, only two companies have shown a rise in contribution: Infosys and Satyam Computer Services.
