Karnataka chemists, druggists plan stir

BANGALORE: Chemists and druggists throughout the State have planned to go on strike on December 10 and 11 to protest against "harassment" by the State Drug Control Department.

The Karnataka Chemists & Druggists' Association said it was protesting on various grounds. The Drugs Control Department was blaming druggists and not the manufacturers, for violating the NPPA norms on drug prices. Mr Vishnu S. Kamath, Honorary Secretary of the association, said Karnataka druggists were among the most law-abiding, scrupulous and best tax-payers in the country. The two-day bandh, he hoped, would highlight their problems and make the department review its recent actions against them.

The association had also urged the Government to put an end to quackery and come out with qualifications for medical practitioners.
