Hyderabad , Dec. 8

THE College of Defence Management (CDM), a premium tri-service institution of armed forces, is holding a two-day seminar on "Management of War in Contemporary Environment" here from Thursday.

According to Brigadier Mr Deepak Sharma, over 350 delegates including former Governors, former service chiefs, senior officers of the defence departments, defence analysts, scientists and academicians were expected to take part in the annual seminar of CDM. About 15 defence officers from foreign countries will also attend.

He told newspersons here on Monday that there was a general feeling amongst strategic thinkers that management of war should be deliberated at length to ensure optimal policy support in the context of national security.

Keeping in view the prevailing environment, management of war in its entirety assumed a larger dimension than a mere clash of armed force, the theme and sub-themes of the conference have been selected. The sub-themes pertained to impact of the new world order on national security and evolution of grand strategy and planning for war.

CDM, recognised by the All India Management Association (AIMA) on par with the four IIMs and ASCI, is the only one of its kind in the country that imparts training to officers of the rank of Major to Major General and their equivalents in the Navy and Air Force. Since its inception in 1970, the college has trained over 5,000 officers.

All those who have successfully undergone CDM training programmes will get a Master of Management Studies, a post graduate degree, from Osmania University. The college has five faculties, headed by officers of the rank of Brigadier or equivalent.

Air Commodore Mr Govindraj and CDM Head of Faculty (Decision Analysis), Commodore Mr Madhav Rao, who were also present at the press conference, said that the entire armed forces fraternity would benefit from the interactions at the seminar.
