Mangalore port handles record iron ore shipments

THE New Mangalore Port handled a record quantity of 22,102 tonnes of iron ore fines/lumps on December 7.

A press release by the Traffic Manager of the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT), Mr Nownith Kumar, stated here on Monday that this was the highest productivity achieved by the port using conventional mode of operation.

It stated that "MV Bulk Orien" berthed at the port on December 5 for loading 38,480 tonnes of iron ore fines/lumps. The cargo was exported to China from Mineral Enterprises, Bangalore. Hasan Hajee and Co was the stevedore, the release added.
