Hitachi to develop India as export hub for window ACs

New Delhi , Dec. 8

THE Indian arm of the Japanese air-conditioner manufacturer, Hitachi Home & Life Solutions Inc, Hitachi Home & Life Solutions India Ltd, intends to develop India as the export hub for its window air-conditioners. Further, the company is planning to double its exports to 20,000 units by expanding volumes for West Asia and other Asian countries in the next one year.

Says Mr Amit Doshi, Vice-President, Marketing & Services, "The Indian market with volume growth of 20 per cent is one of the most significant air-conditioner markets in the world." He said driving exports to build volumes and sustaining a modern R&D centre will be the key constituents of the company's strategy. "We expect exports to form more than 20 per cent of our turnover by 2005."

The company's aggressive growth plans in the export market come on the back of a successful export thrust in the current year which could, according to company estimates, help exports grow from 3,000 units in 2002 to 10,000 units during the current year.

"We are currently evaluating consumer requirements and need gaps in the export market. We will develop products based on the usage and quality parameters relevant to each target market," adds Mr Doshi. Hitachi currently exports to West Asia, Africa and SAARC countries. The products for these markets have been specially developed to function in the climatic conditions prevalent in these markets.
