Kochi , Dec. 8

TV Sundaram Iyengar & Sons (TVS) is planning to expand its presence in the pre-owned cars segment to the four Southern States by the next financial year.

Currently present in Kerala and Tamil Nadu with a market share of 10 per cent of the organised sector, the company's used cars division has already crossed the benchmark of 2,000 sales since its inception two years back. At present, the used car unit is selling around 150 cars a month, Mr R. Srivatchan, Vice-President (Customer Centric Business) TVS & Sons Ltd, said.

Mr Srivatchan, who was here in connection with the launch of `My TVS' in Kerala, told reporters on Tuesday that the division is confident of increasing its market share and selling about 5,000 cars next year with its thorough evaluation procedure and six-month warranty offer. At present, it has used car outlets in Chennai, Madurai, Tiruchi, Tirunelveli, Salem, Coimbatore, Kochi, Kozhikode, Thriuvananthapuram and Thrissur, he said.

Announcing the integration of their motoring service initiatives under the brand umbrella `My TVS', he said this brand would henceforth represent TVS & Sons customer-centric businesses. The bouquet of customer-centric businesses offered under the brand is `My TVS All Car Service' hitherto operating as TVS Xpress, My TVS Quality Used Cars hitherto operating as TVS Value Cars, My TVS 24x7 Emergency Services.

These new initiatives mark a shift in the company's customer-centric thinking. It also plans to roll out customer-centric businesses in other States in a phased manner. The company has invested a sizeable portion of the Rs 15-crore investment required in the first phase and has plans to complete the balance investments on these new business initiatives shortly, Mr Srivatchan added.

Regarding the all-car service, he said the division has planned to double its presence by adding 10 more outlets in Kerala by March 2004, of which firm arrangements have been made for eight outlets. My TVS All Car Service has started tie-ups with corporate clients and had bagged contract from Air India for their vehicles servicing.

Currently, it has 43 franchisee outlets in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka and services about 3,000 cars per month. The division has recently completed 50,000 job orders and maintains relationship with 20,000 customers.
