Our Bureau

MANGALORE: The Senior Vice-President of Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers (MCF) Ltd, Mr P.C. Jain, has said that steps have been taken to adopt safety norms in its factory here and to increase green cover around it.

Presiding over a talk on "Environment and risk management in process industry," organised by MCF to mark Chemical Disaster Prevention Week here on Tuesday, Mr Jain said MCF has taken steps to ensure proper treatment of effluents. He also stressed the need for industries to share their knowledge and expertise in risk management.

Mr Jain, who explained about the initiatives taken by the Union Government and industries to develop a corporate charter of responsibilities, stated that 17 major industries have entered into an agreement with the Union Government to meet specific targets to come up to the standards set in the charter. Owing to the technological improvements in the plant, MCF has been able to meet the targets set in the charter, he added.

The former Vice-Chancellor of Madras University, Mr B.B. Sunderesan, inaugurated the seminar. The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Aravind Srivastav, was present.
