Outsourcing `Storage networking has huge BPO potential' Tunia Cherian George
Mr Kumar Malavalli
Mumbai , Dec. 9 THE storage networking market is set for double-digit growth in the next few years and China, Australia and India would be the main drivers of growth in this space. According to Mr Kumar Malavalli, Chairman of the Storage Networking Summit held recently, and the co-founder of Brocade Communications, mid-tier companies in these markets would be the main drivers of the growth forecast. The mid-tier segment comprises companies with 4-5 servers and 1-2 terabytes of storage attached to a network that supports one or two applications. Mr Malavalli told Business Line that the market had developed top-down. The large companies that represented just a fraction of the total market had implemented storage systems. However, the top-end was not high on volumes unlike the mid-tier. According to Mr Malavalli, storage networking has the potential to develop into a high-margin outsourcing business for India, which could serve as a remote back-up and disaster recovery site. Storage networking is relevant and crucial to almost all sections of the economy. For instance, a potential end-user could turn out to be film production companies in Bollywood as storage networking supports non-linear film production. In this process, multiple film clips can be created, not necessarily in order, which can then be worked upon by film technicians at the storage site, to complete the entire production in a shorter period of time. According to Mr Malavalli, storage networking systems are used in the production of films such as the Lord of the Rings and The Matrix, which had a fair amount of animated content.Similarly, television production companies, the hotel industry, healthcare and even cricket programming could benefit from storasge networking solutions.
