`EPF claims to be settled in days'

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , Dec. 9

THE Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) has come of age to suit the needs of the current demands of the changing system and the aspirations of member workers, according to Mr S.K. Khanna, Additional Central Provident Fund Commissioner (South Zone).

"The new system being put in place would help settle claims within 2-3 days after the receipt of claim," he said addressing a daylong workshop on `E-Ready EPF' on Tuesday.

"People can submit their claim applications at any of the 260 locations of the EPF organisation. The system of submitting proof of documents in support of claims for advances will be done away with and mere claim application by the members will do," he said.

"Employers will no longer be required to attest the claim applications of their workers, which will result in increased satisfaction level among the workers."

Employers also benefit from the new system. "They can submit their returns through electronic clearance system. Contributions shall have to be deposited monthly hereafter unlike in the past. Select branches of State Bank of India will accept these contributions."

The employers would be given an eight-digit national unique business number within three days of receipt of the application, while member workers would get a 14-digit social security number, a statement quoting Mr Khanna said.

The workshop was organised by Social Security Association of India.
