Panel raps Govt on disinvestment policy document

New Delhi , Dec. 9

A PARLIAMENTARY panel on Tuesday rapped the Government for adopting a casual approach towards its repeated recommendations asking for a comprehensive policy document on disinvestment, which could be laid before the Parliament for approval.

In its report tabled in both houses of Parliament, the Standing Committee on Finance headed by Mr N. Janardhana Reddy (Congress) came down on the Government for its failure to formulate a comprehensive policy document on disinvestment.

"The Committee was rather perturbed by the Government's casual approach towards repeated recommendations to bring out a comprehensive document on Disinvestment Policy which could be laid before Parliament for its approval," the report stated. Besides, the Committee said, "they were unable to understand the difficulty faced by the Government in formulating the comprehensive policy document".

The panel also declined to accept a document put forward by the Government on the matter arguing the same was a mere compilation of a similar book published earlier.
