New Delhi , Dec. 9

BHARAT SANCHAR NIGAM LTD (BSNL) has slashed the intra-circle landline-to-landline STD call rates by 25 per cent starting December 15.

In keeping with the revised interconnection usage charges (IUC), a landline-to-landline call beyond 100 km within the same circle will cost Rs 1.80 per minute in place of the existing Rs 2.40 per minute for all subscribers of its General Plan (monthly rental of Rs 250 in urban areas and Rs 120 to Rs 180 in rural areas). The pulse rate for such calls has also been revised upwards from the existing 30 seconds to 40 seconds.

Announcing these new rates, Mr Prithipal Singh, Chairman and Managing Director, said that the company expects the traffic to increase with the latest reduction, which is available to all fixed line customers including the STD public call booths.

He also pointed out that subscribers who avail themselves of the alternative tariff packages of BSNL will end up paying much lower rates. The cost of intra-circle STD calls for subscribers of the Economy Plan will be Rs 1.50 per minute, Special Plan subscribers will be charged Rs 1.37 per minute and those under the Super Plan will be charged Rs 1.20 per minute.

As against the General Plan, the Economy Plan has a monthly charge of Rs 350, Special Plan Rs 750 and Super Plan Rs 1,650 with varying number of free calls.

Mr Singh noted that there is no change in the other tariff charges across all the Plans, and customers would benefit hugely from this revision as a majority of the STD calls fall under the intra-circle category beyond 100 km.
