5 pc customs duty on select plantation sector machinery

IN a bid to help the crisis-driven plantation sector, the Finance Ministry has specified a concessional customs duty of 5 per cent on certain specific machinery or equipments used in the plantation sector.

This duty benefit would be available until May 1, 2005, revenue department official said.

The revenue department has through a notification specified the machinery for the coffee plantation sector, tea plantation sector and the rubber plantation sector that would be eligible to be imported with customs duty of 5 per cent.

Further, the imports of these specified machinery and equipments would also be exempted from the 4 per cent special additional duty of customs (SACD) and this exemption would be available only till May 1, 2005.
