13 Indian students short-listed for Ibda'a media awards

Vimala Vasan

Abu Dhabi , Dec. 13

THIRTEEN Indian students are among a total of 35 short-listed international contestants for the `Ibda'a Awards for Media Students 2003,' promoted by the Dubai Media City (DMC). The students have arrived in Dubai for the announcement of the awards on December 17.

Apart from the 13 Indians, the 35 short-listed contestants include four from the UAE, six each from Iran and South Africa, two from Egypt and one each from the UK, Australia, Lebanon and Sri Lanka, according to a DMC press release.

The short-listed entries were selected after an intensive three-week judging process conducted by the International Advertising Association's (IAA) UAE Chapter that evaluated 1,819 entries received from across the region. All the short-listed contestants will also attend the Ibda'a Awards gala dinner on December 17, during which winners will be announced.

An exhibition of their entries will be held at the DMC. The exhibition will showcase a wide diversity of media creations in nine categories of the awards - animation, journalism, radio, TV documentary, print advertising, TV advertising, film/TV feature, photography, and graphic design. The exhibition gives an opportunity for the region's media industry and Dubai Media City companies to identify talent for possible recruitment.
