Sports AP team to hold parleys with F1 chief in London V. Rishi Kumar
Hyderabad , Dec. 14 IN its efforts to woo the Formula One Holdings to host its race in Hyderabad by 2007, the Andhra Pradesh Government has rushed senior officials to London to hold parleys with the Chairman of F1 Holdings, Mr Bernie Ecclestone. A high-power delegation headed by Mr P.V. Rao, Chairman of the recently created Andhra Pradesh Infrastructure Development Corporation, who has been entrusted with mega projects of Formula One and Volkswagen, will meet with the Formula One boss and seek to clinch the project so that the necessary infrastructure is created to host the 2007 race possibly in Hyderabad. It is learnt that Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka are among others in the hot pursuit of this prestigious project. It may be recalled that the Chief Minister, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, visited Milan on an invitation by Mr Ecclestone earlier this year to see the Fomula One Race being held there and also hold talks with his team and convince them of his Government's keenness to host this ambitious project. It is gathered that the project has the potential to provide employment to about 70,000 people both directly and indirectly and also could bring in a spin-off effect on the tourism sector, particularly the hospitality industry. Thereafter, Mr Ecclestone was invited to the Afro-Asian Games held in Hyderabad and to also assess the site identified for this mega project. But due to other pre-occupations, the visit could not materialise, Government sources said. It is learnt that the senior officials held talks with the Chief Minister ahead of their visit to Europe. The Formula One Holdings has said the State needed to provide a host of facilities, including many more star hotels, quality trauma care infrastructure and an international airport.
