Anti-power theft drive

HYDERABAD: Emulating the Andhra Pradesh Transmission Corporation Ltd., model, the Maharashtra State Electricity Board has decided to establish special courts and police stations to exclusively tackle cases of power theft.

These are aimed at reducing losses and in particular to protect the interest of power consumers. Several states -

Gujarat, Chhattisgarh have studied the AP pattern in reducing losses and curtailing theft of energy, according to AP Transco. The Chairman and Managing Director of Transco, Ms Rachel Chatterjee, in a communication has requested various departments to help in booking the theft and pilferage of energy cases and curbing the malpractices, besides strengthening the circle wise police stations. With sustained efforts the utility has managed to save more than Rs 52 crore, a Transco communiqué said.
