Clipped wings

Parth Sanyal

A Macaw living in captivity spreads its wings in Kolkata. Macaws, which have tails that are usually as long as their bodies, are an endangered species according to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species. Some of the main reasons for the decline in its numbers is the destruction of its habitat and the pet trade. There are several online sites where different kinds of macaws are sold ranging from $800 (about Rs 36,000) to as high as $12,000 (about Rs 5.4 lakh).
