Health Cath lab at Yashoda Hospitals Our Bureau
HYDERABAD: The city-based Yashoda group of super speciality hospitals has installed a new generation Flat Panel Detector Cath Lab at a cost of Rs 3.5 crore. The hospital claimed that it was the first corporate hospital in South India to be equipped with the new instrument, produced by Siemens of Germany. According to the Yashoda Hospitals Managing Director, Dr G.S. Rao, advantages of the new technology include improved image quality, lesser radiation and magnified digital image. It will also facilitate three dimensional image reconstruction for interventional cardiologist, who regularly deal with blood vessels of the size of 2.5 to 3 mm. This will enable the doctor to diagnose possible heart attacks at an early stage. Dr Rao told newspersons here on Monday that with the help of new technology, a cardiologist would be able to accurately decide the stent required based on fine vessel detail, improve quality of examination and reduce contrast quality leading to decreased complication. The patient would also have very low radiation exposure. The only constraint was that the portable device would cost double than that of the conventional CCD (charge couple device) cath labs. The Siemens Executive Vice-President, Mr Henrich Von Wulfen, said that many prestigious healthcare centres worldwide including US and Europe were changing their conventional CCD cath labs to FPDCL.
