IGNOU enrolment declines in Kerala

Our Bureau

KOCHI: While the national average in enrolment at the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has increased by 27 per cent, it has come down by 20 per cent in Kerala.

The Vice-Chancellor of IGNOU, Mr H.P. Dikshit, said that fall in enrolment was probably because of low awareness regarding the courses and facilities extended by the university. He was here in connection with the inauguration of new regional centre building.

IGNOU reaches about half of the students going for distance education in the South East Asian countries. It also funding 10 State open universities and 91 distance education centres, he said adding that talks are on with the State Government which has a proposal for an open distance education system.
