TN software exports

Our Correspondent

MADURAI: Despite registering a high growth rate in software exports and Chennai housing some top IT firms, Tamil Nadu is yet to emerge as a major player in the industry, compared to Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, said Mr Vivek Harinarayanan, Secretary, Information and Technology, here.

Delivering the keynote address at the two-day national seminar on `Mobile commerce-Manage business anywhere anytime' organised by the Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association, he said software exports have grown to Rs 7,000 crore from Rs 3,116 crore in the last two years and the State's share stood at 17 per cent at the national level. Among the cities, Chennai has achieved much in the IT industry. Many leading companies are trying to locate their centres in the city. Yet, a failure is seen in attracting foreign IT players, in spite of a better work culture and devoted professionals, he lamented.
