Mardia hearing rescheduled to January 7 & 8

THE Supreme Court has rescheduled the hearing of the Mardia Chemicals case to January 7 and 8 on the request of the Solicitor General of India. The landmark case's final ruling is expected to have a bearing on the entire Indian banking industry with its interpretation of the Securitisation Act.

Earlier the case was to be heard on December 19.

The Solicitor General has sought time in order to gather more information on the Government's views on debt adjudication for the small borrower. It is known that the Government is concerned about the Securitisation Act's bearing on the small borrower.
