Hyderabad , Dec 17

NATCO Pharma Ltd (NPL), a city-based pharmaceutical company, has announced the launch of two more anti-cancer drugs - Natfost (amifostine injection) and Hyurea (hydroxyurea capsules).

In a release on Tuesday, NPL said that Natfost selectively protects normal cells from certain side effects of chemotherapy and radiation.

Hyurea is used in the treatment of leukaemia, melanoma and colon carcinoma. Given orally in combination with other drugs or radiation, it prevents the cancer cells from progressing at one stage of growth to another, resulting in their death.

Used in combination with radiation, Hyurea prevents the cancer cell from repairing itself. With these launches, NPL claims to have established itself a major player in the oncology segment with a basket of about 10 drugs.

It expects to consolidate its position in the oncology segment.
