`Reconsider tax on cable operators'

Our Correspondent

MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Government should reconsider the entertainment tax levied on cable TV operators, the Cable Operator's Guild here has demanded.

In a press release, its President, Mr A. Pandi, said a resolution to the effect was taken at a meeting of the guild recently. He said an entertainment tax of Rs 6,000, Rs 3,000, Rs 1,500 and Rs 1,000 have been levied on cable operators in the corporation, municipality, town panchayat and village panchayat, respectively. As the levy is equal for both big and small operators, the effect would be detrimental only for big operators.

He also stressed on the need to implement the conditional access system in Madurai as in Chennai. It has been resolved to petition to the Madurai district collector in this regard; letters have been forwarded to the Prime Minister and the Ministry concerned.

Further, the recent like effected by the sports channel should be withdrawn, he has demanded.
